Oakland Green Job Corps Clears Last Hurdle for Launch

July 22, 2008 — On Tuesday July 22, 2008 the Oakland City Council Public Works Committee rubber stamped final approval for $250,000 in seed funding for the Oakland Green Job Corps. The Oakland Green Job Corps is the long awaited job-training pipeline connecting young adults with barriers to employment to the local workforce development community for "green-collar" job training. The vote is the last administrative step before implementation, officially clearing the Oakland Green Job Corps for launch in Fall 2008. [Read More]

State Agency Calls For Closure of All Youth Prisons By 2011

July 18, 2008 — On July 14, the Little Hoover Commission released its report on juvenile justice realignment in California, and called on the state “to eliminate its juvenile justice operations by 2011” and invest instead in “county-run, state-funded, regional rehabilitative facilities.” [Read more.]
